As you know by now, Convention activities will be held August 4th through the 6th at the Chapel Hill Sheraton Hotel, located a short 18 minutes from the RDU Airport in Raleigh/Durham (for an expanded list of nearby airport and transportation options, click here).

What's in walking distance of the hotel?
McDonald's and Hong Kong Buffet are a 5min walk. Rams Plaza has a Food Lion Grocery, a CVS Pharmacy, and several shops about a 10min walk from the hotel.

THINGS TO DO

The Chapel Hill Visitors' Bureau has a great searchable site with events, restaurants, and things to do, while Downtown Chapel Hill's blog is a great resource for hidden gems. You can also check out the guide our hotel has on their website.

Taking a stroll down Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill and Main Street in downtown Carrboro would be THE must-do activities if you're into people-watching, shopping, and eating all the things. You won't have trouble finding something to do: Music? Check! Performing Arts? Check! Restaurants? Check! Kid-Friendly? Check! Outdoor Recreation? Check!

Recreation. This site has a great list of area recreation options. You can also check out the trails, botanical gardens, local parks, history and landmarks, and these self-guided walking tours

Performing Arts. Check out Paperhand Puppet for great shows in the famed Forest Theater on UNC campus. Free Concert on Sunday 8/6 at 6pm: Idlewild South - Allman Brothers Tribute Band.

Movies: Theaters offer everything from indie to traditional, and DSI Comedy Theater features Improv style comedy shows.

Music: Cat's Cradle brings a variety of musical acts from all over and Local 506 features local talent.

Museums: The Ackland Art Museum on campus or Kidzu Childrens Museum are great. Basketball fans won't want to miss the Carolina Basketball Museum. #NationalChampions

Planetarium: The Morehead Planetarium is a fun activity for the whole family. Listed in Trip Advisor as one of the top things to do in Chapel Hill.

Places to eat. Chapel Hill and Carrboro are two of the foodiest towns in NC. Farm-to-table cuisine is a big things here and you can find it at small mom-and-pop places or fancy upscale restaurants. If you have time for a tour, check out Taste Carolina. If you only have an hour to eat, then check out downtown Chapel Hill on Franklin Street for a large assortment of options, especially if you're on a budget.

Places to shop. These links provide a summary of the local shopping centers, farmers markets, and malls. The hotel is close to Durham, which has even more restaurant and shopping options. The largest mall is Southpoint (15min); New Hope Commons has a Walmart and Marshalls; and Patterson Place has Kohls, DSW, Bed Bath and Beyond (8min). This is by no means an exhaustive list. Local sisters will be happy to help you find something specific to your needs.
